On Happiness
The Father, whom we call God or the Creator - the Supreme Cause - always wants you to be happy. He is happiness in His own nature, and you possess that nature. In your Reality, you are happiness, Pure Happiness. He cannot make anyone happy, unless they realize that happiness is hidden within themselves.
Unless one loves the Father, as one's own self, one cannot realize that joy, one cannot achieve the hidden treasure of happiness.
If one wants to make his Father happy, he has to remain happy. One can only remain happy when he can love someone, a living life, and can be happy with that beloved. At the same time, he has to love The Love, the spirit of the Father. As much as one feels himself expanded, so much joy he can achieve. Expansion is joy.
Unless one becomes perfect in his life, love and relations, and feels the satisfaction of his achievement, he cannot be happy.
Unless one rises above the influence of Maya or illusion, he cannot be happy. Unhappiness comes from expectation, desires, allurement and attachment to worldly things.
Unless the desires are fulfilled, one is unhappy.
Unless one's allurement, greed and lust are fully fulfilled, one will go on asking for one thing after another, 'I want this, I want that'. He will feel himself confined in a series of allurement, with desires following desires.
So one has to fulfil all desires and come to a condition when he should move with the desire created by his love alone: pure love, created by the wishes of the Holy Spirit. There may be many desires. Those that create more desires and bondages should be ignored. Those that bring freedom of the mind and soul should be fulfilled.
The mind, selfishness, and egotism captivate the self. Unless one is free from these bondages, one cannot be happy.
On the way towards happiness, one has to love his Ideal. Then he can remain uncoloured, unbiased and balanced. When one is balanced in mind and remains in the conscience and heart and is no more influenced by any other impulses around him or the effect of his complexes, he is balanced. That is the state of peace.
One is only happy when he believes that all the unnecessary worries and anxieties are due to fear. One has to come out of this fear complex, which is the cause of unhappiness. Let anything happen, but be prepared for any eventuality. Overcome the fear complex and remain happy.
The purpose of life is to attain peace, Eternal Peace; to attain the freedom of the soul, Salvation. The purpose of life is to enjoy life with love. One cannot be happy to lead an aimless and useless life. As much as the real purposes of life are fulfilled, one can be happy.
One can also be happy when he can understand his self, surroundings, relations and contacts. This discriminating understanding, the wisdom, the opening of the inner eye to see and foresee, removes all weaknesses.
Happiness exists beyond ignorance, beyond hatred, beyond doubt, beyond all weaknesses, beyond all irritation and the circumstances of anger. One has to overcome all these things to remain free.
The best way of remaining free is to be in The Love, to live in love, to live life with love and with no attachment for worldly things. Still, one can comfortably use anything in this world that will help his Being and Becoming.
Happiness should come out as an aura of joy through the eyes, face and movements. There are many who are happy within, but it is not expressed on their faces. Many misunderstand that these people are not happy. Unless one carries happiness through his eyes, words and behaviour to others, there is no meaning of that happiness.
One can never be completely happy with oneself until he reaches the state of trance, the state of Pure Happiness, the state of Pure Consciousness, the state of his union with the Supreme.
But one can be happy without attaining the highest state of life or self-elevation. One can achieve temporary happiness if one can share the pain and pleasure of others without attachment, but with love. One can be happy by helping others to be happy through inspiration and exaltation. The more one can exalt others, the more one remains exalted. This exalted condition of mind and being is another chamber of happiness. One can lighten the mind with reason and, understanding, which is another chamber of happiness. To keep good health or keep the body free from disease is another condition of happiness.
Mentally one should be beyond diseases.
At the same time, spiritually one should be free and without any conflict between his self and his Ideal or his complexes and his love, or his self and his Beloved. There should not be any conflict, any pressure, any tension, any strain, any anxieties, any worries or any kind of fear.
All these things, including insecurity, are the causes of unhappiness. When we remove the causes of all unhappiness, then one can feel that he is happy.
Sometimes one becomes unhappy when he cannot make his beloved, whom he loves, happy with him. One's Beloved is one's own world of joy, one's own world of pleasure and displeasure. If the Beloved is happy, the lover is happy. The same way, the Beloved is happy to see the lover is happy. So happiness is a mutual condition of well-being, free from wants and worries. There may be wants, but there should not be feelings of those wants.
One has to fulfil as much as possible. There is a happiness in the life of poor people, because they do not have anxiety that the rich people have with the load of property, money and so on. Anything we possess, however, should be saved, along with our life, our love, our relations and all our experiences and material or spiritual achievements.
This safety and security is happiness, to some extent. But the moment one will be attached to it, worries will start. 'I may lose it, I may lose my beloved'. And one can also think, 'I may lose my life'. So any kind of loss is the cause of unhappiness. Any kind of gain, material or spiritual, is the cause of happiness.
When one can create anything, he feels expansion and joy. Artists find peace through their painting. Many find peace through building up something. A writer writes some drama, novels or poetry. Any kind of creation through the instinctive nature or efficiencies brings happiness to life.
One can be happy through a life befitting to one?s instinct. So the profession or activities are the most important factors in life because they may bring happiness, satisfaction or dissatisfaction.
One's companions or friends are also causes of happiness or unhappiness, so one should select the right types of friends.
To see one's dearest and nearest ones are happy, one can derive some happiness in life.
All cannot achieve the state of Pure Happiness within through meditation or reorientation of the life or through realisation of the Reality because not everyone is born with the same spiritual potentialities. Some have come to enjoy their life within a limited circle, to enjoy love and emotions. They have to pass through it. For them, the only message is that whatever they do, they should always remember that they create their own hell or heaven through their own thoughts, words, actions, behaviour and attitudes. They should know what result might come to their life before every expression in every step of life. One should achieve this rational judgement as a man. For that he must have his own faith in his Lord, he must have a moment of seclusion to talk with the Father or pray for some time. It is necessary for people. Thereby they can derive some happiness. They should have a change of work so that they do not feel tired. They should have peaceful circumstances for happiness.
One has to create the circumstances of happiness in life and love. If one remains cheerful and tries to make others charming and cheerful, if one can carry an attitude of peaceful mind by smiling, laughing, a little joking, a little playing, a little friendship, if one can remain cheerful and try to charm his inner being or beloved or Lord, this very practice helps one to be happy.
The best quality of mind is that which remains cheerful. The worst quality of mind is that which remains in depression.
Exaltation of mind is the state of inviting happiness that one should carry.
On the surface of the water of a river in a cold country, we may find some ice. Water becomes frozen to ice. But that ice is nothing but water. The accumulation of every day's tiredness, shocks from others, misbehaviour or the result of ones own mistakes and wrong steps create a frozen mind of unhappiness. It should melt and be released by holy songs, hearing the holy words of the Master or a great Guru, reading holy books, dancing with love, enjoying nice food, fresh air, lying under the sky, sometimes walking, sometimes just listening to something new and fresh. That frozen mind, full of hidden depression, will melt. The depression will disappear.
Ice cannot flow, but water automatically moves to where the ground is lower. So our thoughts should be pumped up to our conscience for filtration before we drink our words with it.
The purity of heart, balanced mind and ever-conscious state of life is the state of happiness.
Unless one loves the Father, as one's own self, one cannot realize that joy, one cannot achieve the hidden treasure of happiness.
